Treatment Options

Who else could better understand what you are going through than other "baby-challenged" couples? We are trying to make this IVF website a meeting point for couples just like us to offer them support, information on IVF options and most importantly an In vitro fertilization solution.

As couples' needs vary, the IVF program will be slightly different to fit each individual's needs and requests. We have decided to approach this Fertility IVF program with the idea that couples are not the same. Therefore we do our best to treat them individually and not conduct group IVF vacations.

My IVF Alternative will do the very best to make your experience with IVF treatment personal, relaxing, effective and without high costs. You can see on our "IVF Treatment Options" page that we offer many IVF treatments and you can take advantage of any of them to make each IVF treatment fit your needs. On the "IVF Treatment Options" page, you can also read more about details, tests and other requirements needed to start your IVF treatment including tests and requirements that must be met by volunteers to be accepted as donors.

Here, we have used the two most common In vitro fertilization treatments to provide you with a general idea of your IVF treatment vacations. For others, such as FET (frozen embryo transfer of your own previously created embryos), Donor FET (transfer of donor embryos previously created by tested egg donors and sperm donors) or IVF treatment with medications for any auto-immune issues, please contact us directly at: info@myivfalternative.com

As our fertility struggles vary, so will IVF patients' need for a treatment. At My IVF Alternative we have put together a basic outline of treatments available so that you can get the right IVF treatment for your individual needs:

  1. Non donor IVF treatment
  2. Donor IVF treatments (eggs, sperm, embryos)
  3. Surrogacy

Here is a step-by-step example of the treatment/travel/vacation:

IVF using your own eggs

Tests needed for non donor IVF:

Female partners only: Blood test for FSH, LH, TSH,E2 and Prolactin done within the first three days of a menstrual cycle (starting from a full bleed), less than 6 months old
Both partners: Blood test for Hepatitis B & C, HIV 1&2 and Syphilis less than 1 year old

Tests recommended for non donor IVF:

Recent pap smear, prenatal exam by your OB/GYN, mammogram (if applicable)
Sperm analysis

Non donor IVF Pre-treatment prescription:

Any kind of Monophasic birth control pills - this will help prepare your body for the treatment and travel. It is important that your BCP is monophasic (meaning that the hormonal level in each active pill is the same) and you have about two months' worth.

Completed medical questionnaire, covering your and your partner's medical/fertility history. This form will be e-mailed to you together with our IVF treatment contract.

Once you have researched your options, talked to My IVF Alternative and/or other couples that have used our service in the past (some of them provided their contact information on our website under "Testimonials" others are active member of various message boards). Once you’ve got all of your IVF questions answered, it is time to think about the best 8 to 14 days that would work for you getting pregnant via IVF in Czech. Thanks to our precise and interactive coordination, you need to stay only 8 to 14 days in Czech to complete your In vitro fertilization treatment.

We believe you should decide when you want to get pregnant with IVF. The IVF clinic is assisting patients seven days a week during their treatment as our ovaries don't work around our clock. ;o) You should see your OB/GYN and inform them that you are attempting pregnancy with IVF as they may do your prenatal check up. You will also need to have your blood tested anytime within the first three days of your cycle (starting from a full bleed) for: FSH, LH, TSH, E2 and Prolactin. The results should not be more than 6 months old. Please ask your provider for a prescription of two months worth of monophasic birth control pills (each and every active pill has the same amount of hormones in them). Brand doesn’t matter – ask your doctor if s/he could provide you with a free sample. BCP will prepare your body for the IVF treatment and helps with your flight, cycle and IVF treatment coordination as well.

We'll send you our medical questionnaire covering your and your partner's medical/fertility history. This way your treating doctor in Czech will know how to approach your IVF treatment the best to achieve pregnancy. We will also send you our contract for your review. Once a signed contract is received with a deposit, you will receive our extensive IVF Vacation Traveler's Manual with tips on how to save even more, learn about low cost airfare and valuable information on vacationing in Czech. At this time, your US coordinator is assigned to you.

Your IVF treating doctor in Czech will put together a stimulation protocol based on your information and your travel dates. Depending on your protocol, the right dosage of your IVF medication is prescribed; we assist you in getting them filled at a low cost pharmacy. Once you receive them, My IVF Alternative coordinator will go over the details of your treatment and medication administration. When your In vitro fertilization treatment is all set up, you'll pay the balance. We have also been helping our patients qualify for free medications, saving them additional hundreds of dollars in addition to the great IVF cost saving benefit of having your In vitro fertilization preformed in the Czech Republic (applies only to US citizens/residents with cooperating OB/GYNs).

IVF patients can fly to several airports so that you can choose a flight that is the most convenient for you. Of course, flying all the way to your final destination Brno is the easiest way to go but you can look into other airports as well, such as Prague and Vienna. My IVF Alternative coordinator will take you to your hotel and provide you with a cell phone with the most important numbers preprogrammed in it. Including your IVF treating doctor's cell number! Upon request, you can also receive our MP3 player with meditation, created especially for women undergoing IVF treatments, helping you relax even more while on your IVF vacation.

There are only a few visits to the IVF clinic necessary, leaving you with plenty of time to explore the rest of the Czech Republic or other nearby countries (Austria, Slovakia, Hungary etc.) This is a very comfortable way to be introduced to the Czech culture and experience. At My IVF Alternative we do our best to treat and care for each couple individually, although there will most likely be other couples undergoing their IVF treatment at the same time. We are trying to respect everybody's privacy but if you request to be known to others, we'll forward your request to the other couples and we can help you get together.  That gives IVF patients the opportunity to share their experience, make friends and really have a great vacation while undergoing In vitro fertilization. Most IVF patients have made a comment that this is a beginning of a great friendship with an extended Czech family.

Your My IVF Alternative coordinator will pick you up at the hotel on the day of your first IVF appointment. No need for translating as the doctors speak English. However, we are still present at your appointments should you need any assistance. At this time, the doctor will check your progress of your stimulation by ultrasound and perform a blood test if necessary. Your medication can be adjusted at this time. You can ask your doctor any questions while at your IVF appointment and you will be instructed when to come back for your follow up visit. After your first appointment at the clinic (or when you feel like it) My IVF Alternative coordinator will show you around Brno, pointing out interesting sights or places of interest helping you get more familiar with the city so that you can get around the city on your own. Feel free to discuss your plans for vacationing in Czech, any trips you'd like to take or things you'd like to see while on your IVF vacation.

During your next appointment at the IVF clinic, your progress will again be checked by ultrasound and a blood test if necessary and you'll be scheduled for your egg retrieval. You will be given a "trigger shot" that needs to be administered precisely at the time the doctor tells you. Male partner should be abstinent from ejaculation for 2-4 days on the day of your egg retrieval. He shouldn't drink alcohol or smoke since midnight prior to your egg retrieval. Since you will be put to sleep for the time of the egg retrieval, you shouldn't smoke, eat or drink from midnight prior to your surgery until after your egg retrieval.

On the day of your egg retrieval you will arrive at the IVF clinic, change into a gown and slippers that you bring with you for your own comfort. As you are undergoing your egg retrieval, your partner will provide his sperm specimen. He will then meet you at the recovery room where you can rest. You will be informed on the number of mature eggs retrieved and later that day, they will be fertilized by the ICSI method with your partner's sperm. It is normal to feel tired; you may experience some menstrual cramping like pain as well. Should you feel bloated, nauseous, vomiting or in severe pain, we ask that you please call us or your IVF doctor's cell phone.

You can use the provided cell phone to call and check on the progress of your embryos. Based on their development, embryo transfer day will be determined (usually it is a 3 or 5 day transfer). Embryo transfer is a painless procedure and you can view your selected embryos on the screen prior to them being placed into your uterus. Your husband can be present as well. Immediately after the transfer you'll stay resting for a while and you can listen to relaxing music. Later, you can get back to your normal activities. You don't have to be bed bound - just no running, jumping, bending, heavy lifting or hot baths after the embryo transfer. Generally, don't do anything you may regret later.

You can relax when getting on a plane to fly back home as your embryos will not get hurt during your flight! If you had any surplus embryos, we'll inform you how many embryos were able to be frozen and we'll be available via e-mail or phone to talk or provide you with any type of support we possibly can during the long and very hard two weeks' wait! We'll keep you in our prayers and our fingers crossed for a positive pregnancy test!

Donor IVF treatments

  1. donor eggs
  2. donor sperm
  3. donor embryos

Czech legislation allows only for anonymous donation (eggs, sperm and embryos). No pictures of donors are available. However, you can specify some of the donor's characteristics that are important to you such as: height, hair color, eye color, weight. You can also provide a picture of yourself for the doctors to match the donor more closely to your looks.

All donors are Caucasians ranging from fair to darker skin.

In order for a volunteer to be accepted into the donation program (eggs or sperm) they need to first meet strict requirements.

All tests follow The 2002 Guidelines for oocyte donation of The American Society for Reproductive Medicine published in Fertility and Sterility Vol. 77, No.6, Suppl. 5 in June 2002.

Screening and tests include

  • Personal and sexual history
  • Psychological evaluation
  • Testing for STDs
    • Serologic testing for Syphilis
    • Serologic testing for HBV a HCV
    • Serologic testing for CMV
    • Serologic testing for HIV
    • Serologic testing for Chlamydia trachomatis
  • Test for blood group and Rh
  • Genetic evaluation
  • History of familial diseases
  • Caryotype
  • Screening for cystic fibrosis

Before a donor is matched to you, about 2-3 weeks prior to your treatment, we'll send you the possible IVF donor's description for your approval: year of birth, blood type, hair/eye color, height, weight, achieved education , possibly if she has donated before or if she has her own family. Thanks to the IVF clinic's extensive donors' database, there is no wait time for egg/sperm donors. However, scheduling of an egg donor IVF treatment, can take several months depending on your medical/fertility condition.

Tests needed for egg donor IVF:

Female partner: Trans vaginal ultrasound measuring the thickness of the uterus lining (endometrium) and checking the uterine cavity for any possible polyps, scaring etc. 12-14 days from the beginning of the cycle (starting with the full bleed)

Male partner: Blood test for Hepatitis B & C, HIV 1&2 and Syphillis less than 1 year old

Tests recommended for IVF:

Recent pap smear
Prenatal exam by your OB/GYN Mammogram (if applicable) Sperm analysis

Donor Eggs IVF Pre-treatment prescription:

At My IVF Alternative, we recommend keeping a prescription for two months worth of Monophasic birth control pills - this will help prepare your body for the treatment and travel. It is important that your BCP is monophasic (meaning that the hormonal level in each active pill is the same). Depending on your fertility history you may or may not need them.

Completed medical questionnaire, covering you and your partner's medical/fertility history; Questionnaire for OD recipient. These forms will be e-mailed to you together with our contract.

a) Donor Eggs

Once you are provided with an In vitro fertilization treatment date, you can plan on spending only 7 days in Czech to complete your IVF treatment with donor eggs, thanks to our precise scheduling and coordination. Partner's sperm used for IVF fertilization can be fresh or frozen.

b) Donor Sperm

Our IVF clinic has its own sperm bank. If you wish, you can arrange for a frozen sperm specimen to be shipped to the clinic from any sperm bank of your choice.

c) Donor Embryos

There are two options when considering donor embryos:

  • Fresh embryos - donor's and recipient's cycles are coordinated and retrieved eggs are fertilized by donor sperm.
  • Frozen embryos - donor eggs are fertilized by donor sperm and frozen.

3. Surrogacy

This type of treatment is available with own eggs, donor eggs, donor sperm or donor embryos. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to help you with a surrogate. Couples in need of this type of IVF treatment need to have their own surrogate mother contracted.

Tests needed for IVF with surrogacy:

Woman providing eggs: Blood test for FSH, LH, TSH, E2 and Prolactin done within the first three days of a menstrual cycle (starting from a full bleed), less than 6 months old

Surrogate: Trans vaginal ultrasound measuring the thickness of the uterus lining (endometrium) and checking the uterine cavity for any possible polyps, scaring etc. 12-14 days from the beginning of the cycle (starting with the full bleed)

Woman providing eggs and man providing sperm: Blood test for Hepatitis B & C, HIV 1&2 and Syphilis less than 1 year old

Tests recommended for IVF with surrogacy:

Both females: Recent pap smear prenatal exam by your OB/GYN, mammogram (if applicable)
Sperm analysis

IVF Pre-treatment prescription (both females):

Any kind of monophasic birth control pills - this will help prepare your body for the treatment and travel. It is important that your BCP is monophasic (meaning that the hormonal level in each active pill is the same) and you have about two months' worth.

Completed medical questionnaire, covering your and your partner's medical/fertility history. This form will be e-mailed to you together with our contract.

With various IVF treatment options available with My IVF Alternative to meet your needs, IVF travel is an affordable and cost effective solution perfect for anyone interested in In vitro fertilization.

As with IVF using your own eggs, we recommend that you talk to My IVF Alternative or review our Testimonials to ensure you are comfortable with our program and all of your questions about IVF are answered.

After you’ve decided on our In vitro fertilization vacation package, it is time to think about the time that would work best for you getting pregnant with donor egg IVF in Czech. When you contact My IVF Alternative and we are discussing your possible donor egg IVF treatment date, it would be helpful if you knew your and  your partner’s blood type and Rh factor. This is particularly important if you are not planning to tell your child where s/he came from, this way, we can provide you with a donor of the same blood type.

You should see your OB/GYN and inform them that you are attempting pregnancy with IVF as they may do your prenatal check up. You will also need to have a trans vaginal ultrasound done on day 12 or 14 of your cycle (non menstruating women need to undergo a mock cycle – please contact My IVF Alternative for more details). Regularly menstruating women, please ask your provider for a prescription of two months worth of monophasic birth control pills (each and every active pill has the same amount of hormones in them). Brand doesn’t matter – ask your doctor if s/he could provide you with a free sample. Please don’t have your prescription filled unless we instruct you to do so, your IVF treatment may not ask for BCP.

We'll send you our In vitro fertilization medical questionnaire covering you and your partner's medical/fertility history. This way your treating doctor in Czech will know how to approach your IVF treatment the best to achieve pregnancy.  Another form is going to be a Questionnaire for donor eggs recipients where you provide information about yourself (you can even include a picture for a better match), you and your partner's blood type and you can request features of the donor that are important to you (i.e. height, weight, hair/eye color, education, if they have successfully donated before, etc.). We will also send you our IVF contract for your review. Once a signed contract is received with a deposit, you will receive our extensive Traveler's Manual with tips on how to save even more, low cost airfare and valuable information on vacationing in Czech while undergoing your IVF treatment.
